There is no single rule that can be followed when it is time to help your best friend cross the rainbow bridge. Getting input from your veterinarian on the specific medical conditions that your pet has is vital for doing what is in your pet’s best interest.

Quality of life is one of the most important things to evaluate. Some signs of declining quality of life are:

  • Loss of interest in most of his favorite activities (Some examples of them may be going for walks, playing with other pets, playing with favorite toys, not greeting you at the door, not interested in treats)
  • Unable to rise or walk on their own
  • Significant weight loss
  • Decreased or absent interest in food, treats or water.
  • Chronic pain that does not resolve with medication

In home euthanasia is less stressful on the pet since it is done in the comfort of the pet’s home, without the stress of taking your pet to a veterinary clinic, avoiding car rides and waiting times. In home euthanasia also allows owners to have privacy during this very special moment.

The euthanasia process is very peaceful and starts with an injectable sedative. The pet will become relaxed usually between 5 to 15 minutes and will lie down. Once fully sedated, the last injection will be administered directly into a vein. Shortly after this final and painless injection the heart will stop.

Pet Cremation: Cremation is the first choice for final disposition for pets, since there are strict regulations for pet burials. When choosing cremation the owner is spared the grief of handling the remains and researching their local laws and regulations regarding pet burials.
The ashes can be placed inside an urn or a memorial cremation jewelry.
